Create your very own two-dimensional copper foil light catcher! Combining beautiful coloured and textured glass with the crisp silver outlines creates beautiful pieces that catch and reflect light all over your home!
Where: Kyneton, Daylesford-Macedon
#onehourout
The plan
Copper foiling was popularised through the creation of Tiffany Lamps starting in 1890’s, since then it has been adapted to create a large variety of homewares from the same basic principles. In this one day workshop you will create your own light catcher from start to finish using one of our designs as a guide.
First you will learn about the different types of window glass; transparent, opaque, textured or clear, not to mention the huge range of colours! You will learn to transfer your pattern onto different types of glass, before cutting it out and refining the shapes using our glass tools including the grinder. Once you have laid out your design we will teach you to apply copper foil to each of your glass pieces before the real fun begins! You will then be guided to tack solder your piece together and then cover your piece in a solder coating before learning how to finish your piece with patinas if you wish! You will also be able to add an additional dimension to your piece by using bevels that will ensure that your light catcher will spread a rainbow around any room if you desire.
A delicious lunch will be provided created from all local organic produce and we are able to cater for any dietary requirements you may have. We also provide you with a divine afternoon treat and tea and coffee facilities are available throughout the course.
Health and Safety Warning: Please be aware that this workshop will place participants in contact with a small amount of lead in the soldering process, participants who are pregnant or have other medical concerns are recommended to seek medical advice.
