Please Note:

All Providers of OHO Experiences have implemented extra precautions around distancing and cleaning practices in order to comply with guidelines provided by the Department of Health and Human Services.

The plan

Wicking beds are a wonderful way to grow vegetables because they are self-contained and extremely water efficient. They’re ideal for locations where plants can not be watered every day, even in the height of summer.

Our one-hour workshops are hands-on, so come along expecting to get your hands dirty. We will take you through the steps to create your own wicking bed at home:

Topics include:
- what are wicking beds and the science behind how they work
- what materials are required
- suitable soils/compost
- suitable plants
- incorporating worms
- water management
- ongoing maintenance

The workshop will conclude with chatter, a cup of tea or cold drink and a delicious seasonal snack from the Torello Farm kitchen.

The fruits of your labour

Workshop participants will be provided with detailed notes about how to create a wicking bed at home. All workshop participants will receive a 10% discount off Torello Farm wicking beds.

The kit required

At all our events at Torello Farm, we aim to inform, educate and, hopefully, entertain participants. We recommend you wear sturdy boots, a sun hat and raincoat (if required) as events will be held on the farm in our outdoor classroom.
Using biodynamic principles, we grow a diverse range of produce including specialty potatoes, heirloom vegetables and tree-ripened fruit – all of which is available from the farm-gate shop, along with other local Mornington Peninsula produce.

For those who'd like to learn more about growing their own food, we run regular workshops at the farm sharing our knowledge and expertise.
