Fused Glass Workshop for Beginners

Discover a new medium while working with warm glass to create a large glass platter and set of coasters to take home in the beautiful Macedon Ranges.

The plan

You will be guided in the basics of glass working, including breaking, shaping and designing with glass to create your own unique fused glass homewares.

Working with glass pieces, frits, powders, stringers, and beads you will create and glue your designs ready for firing onto appropriately sized bases of glass for the projects to ensure a solid finished piece after firing.

A range of ceramic moulds for shaping platters will also be discussed and you can choose to shape your artwork into a functional dish or leave flat as a piece of art. Each piece will then be put through our kiln 1-3 times depending on the desired finish and shape of your piece.

As the kilns take time to heat and cool, the glass projects will need to be collected after the class, dependent on the amount of work in the firing queue platters can take up to 2 weeks to be completed.

This class is suitable for beginners - no experience necessary. This is an adult workshop and is suitable for ages 16+.

The fruits of your labour

• Design and create a square platter (250mm x 250mm)
• A set of 4 coasters
• Learn the basics of working with fused glass

Anyone who wishes to have their pieces returned via post can arrange this individually with the studio at the end of the workshop.

The kit required

Just bring yourself - tea and coffee is provided for students in the lunchroom and may be drunk in the studio.

No food or alcohol is allowed in the glass studio.

What to Wear - All participants must wear closed-toed shoes, and long hair must be tied back. Loose flowing clothing is not recommended in the studio and participants are reminded that while aprons are provided it is recommended to wear clothing they do not mind getting dirty.
