The plan

In this class, you'll be guided through the process of creating your very own Christmas bauble.

Dan Cox, from DAP Jewellery School will introduce you to the techniques of etching and stamping so that you can design your very own, unique handcrafted ornament, which you can personalise and make your very own.

Workshop attendees willl spend 2 hours with Dan learning about the techniques used to etch and stamp their very own Christmas bauble.

The workshop is capped at 12 participants so that all attendees have the opportunity to work closely with Dan.

The fruits of your labour

Workshop attendees will take home their own personally designed (and created) Christmas bauble.

Tea and coffee will be available for attendees on the day.

The kit required

Workshop attendees do not need to bring anything with them on the day. All materials will be provided on the day by Dan and the Bendigo Visitor Centre.
Dan studied Gold and Silversmithing at Griffith University's Queensland College of Art.

Graduating in 2009 with a bachelor of Fine Art and awarded "Most Comprehensive Body of Work", he undertook the graduate jeweller position at the Museum of Brisbane located at Brisbane City Hall.

In 2009 he started working for the Brisbane Institute of Art, building their jewellery curriculum from beginners through to advanced classes. At the same time, he began work for renowned Brisbane jewellery artist Barbara Heath.

In 2010 Dan started work for Flying Arts, travelling around regional Queensland teaching workshops to both teens and adults alike in various forms of jewellery making.

Dan continued to exhibit his pieces through galleries such as Artisan, Retrospect Galleries and Kiln Galleries in Brisbane, where they offered him residency creating works for exhibition and commissions.

In 2012 he gained a position at the Queensland Government's Cobb + Co Museum located in Toowoomba, facilitating weekend workshops, teen workshops and demonstrations. Dan currently retails his private works in their gallery. In 2013 he co-founded Emmanuel + Cox, based in Stones Corner, Brisbane. This partnership created bolder, more dynamic accessory-based jewellery and Dan began teaching hobby jewellers how to create unique, wearable art.

In 2015, Dan opened DAP Jewellery School. Seeing the need for a facility in Brisbane that was inclusive of all types of jewellery, not only traditional silversmithing – but ceramics, felting, resin and more.

DAP jewellery school became a studio where makers and friends converged. Seeing a need for the arts in rural Australia, 2018 saw a new chapter for DAP Jewellery School. With the closure of its Brisbane studio and the creation of a mobile-school Dan now travels with his partner Branden and their dog Sprocket.

They will go the width and breadth of Australia to teach at festivals, schools, clubs and wherever they are needed (kind of like jewellery super-heroes... just without the capes)!
