Come be creative at Hazy Tales Studio and learn how to make a ceramic platter. Rather than buying a platter why not make it yourself and impress your guests at your next gathering? This event will be a mixture of fun and creativity in a stylish venue with great tunes!

Where: Drysdale, Geelong-Bellarine

The plan

Our craft and pottery social evenings are all about fun and creativity. Join us to make your very own platter, which you can make totally unique and even add your own name or a friend's name to – so you can give it as a gift. And not only is it fun but you will also experience mindfulness, which will let you access your creative self and help you feel relaxed and rejuvenated.

These classes are held in our studio, which is a stylish light-filled venue, with floor to ceiling windows and polished concrete floors.

On arrival there will be a complimentary drink – your choice of herbal tea, wine or beer, or spirits with a mixer. BYO for additional drinks.

You will decide on a shape for your platter and a design that will be carved into the coloured underglaze. (You may want to think about a design to carve before you come).

You will roll a slab of clay and form it into your platter shape. Handles can be also added. You'll then paint on your chosen colour and draw your design/pattern onto your piece with a pencil either freehand or over a print or design.

You will then begin carving through the underglaze; a variety of tools can be used for this step. The carving goes through the colour to reveal the clay beneath.

Time: We've allowed 2 hours, but you may stay longer to finish your work. But you may also finish it in less than 2 hours if you're working quickly, so you are free to stay and have a drink and chat.

Your pieces will then be dried out for at least 2 weeks and bisque fired in the kiln. The next step is to have a clear glaze added and be kiln fired a further time. They will then be ready to collect within approx 6 weeks.

2 - 3 hours includes clay, glazes and kiln firing.

The fruits of your labour

On arrival there will be a complimentary drink – your choice of herbal tea, wine or beer, or spirits with a mixer. BYO for additional drinks.

You're completed platter will be ready for you to collect a few weeks later once it has been fully dried, bisque fired, and glaze fired.

The kit required

You may bring an apron, but everything washes out so no need to.
Hi, I’m Sally Hobson- the proprietor of Hazy Tales Pottery Studio located in Drysdale on the Bellarine Peninsula.
I studied photography at Derby University in England and have worked in marketing, in a photography studio and run my own wedding and portrait business. I have always been invested in art and creating. Since moving to Australia 6 years ago, I have found a passion for ceramics and jewellery making. It’s a creative exploration being able to make and sell my own products.

The studio is also a great space for hosting events including kids holiday/term time workshops and social evenings for adults where there is a fab mixture of fun & creativeness!

‘Hazy Tales’ Studio also hosts custom ceramic birthday parties with exclusive access. Handcraft amazing keepsakes with friends for a memorable day with a unique blend.
