During my single day workshop, I will guide you through the design and creation process so you can make your own sterling silver pendant, ring or set of earrings. I will introduce you to ancient jewellery techniques as well as some secret ones that I have developed within my own practice. You will learn how to carve and form jeweller's wax, which I will cast for you into solid sterling silver.
Where: St. Andrews, Yarra Valley & Dandenong Ranges

The plan
This one-day workshop is designed for people of all ages and abilities. You will be encouraged to experiment with wax carving and moulding to create your own pendant, ring or set of earrings. To ensure individual attention can be given, class numbers are limited to 6 people per workshop (larger groups can be arranged upon request. Please email me if you require a group booking – laura@coralcovey.com).
You will arrive at 10am for refreshments whilst looking out over the Kinglake National Park. Shortly after I will explain the lost wax casting process stage by stage. I will guide you on choosing the right tools, selecting and carving the right jewellers wax, and realising your creative ideas. I will explain a range of traditional wax carving techniques such as carving, sawing, filing and polishing.
There will be multiple demonstrations along the way with individual tuition, specifically tailored to guide each student through the ideas behind their individual design.
We will break at 1pm for a fresh lunch cooked on site.
The fruits of your labour
Each attendee will receive a certificate of completion and be given notes on where to source jewellery tools & materials.
Once the course is complete, Laura will cast your chosen wax item in solid sterling silver. She will professionally finish your item, cleaning it and adding hooks for earrings or a chain for pendants. She will then carefully package and post it to you within a three-week period.
The kit required
Tools, equipment and materials – including sterling silver – will be provided.
Laura will also provide you with and apron and sketch paper to take notes and design your piece.
Please wear closed-toe shoes and bring reading glasses if you normally wear them.
