A wine tasting with matched food morsels from the James Halliday–awarded 'Best Value Winery of the Year' – with tastings of exclusive wines, barrel tasting, a winery tour, and a bottle of highly decorated Provenance Regional Series wine to take home.
When: 11am to 12.30pm, Monday to Friday throughout January (except the Australia Day and New Year's Day public holidays). Groups are limited to 15 attendees.
Where: Provenance Wines, Paper Mill Cellar Door, Fyansford
Scott Ireland began establishing Provenance Wines in the mid-1990s, connecting a patchwork of small local vineyards under the one umbrella. Vintage 2006 saw Sam Vogel come on board to help with winemaking duties. A decade later Sam stepped up further, taking a share of ownership in the business. The pair's dedication has resulted in accolades aplenty for this unique winery: including gold wins at the Melbourne, Geelong and Ballarat wine shows, being awarded Gourmet Traveller's Star Cellar Door, and scoring the James Halliday Wine Companion 2019 Best Value Winery title.
Guests will arrive at the historic paper mill site and make their way down through the heritage bluestone buildings to our glorious winery. After a warm welcome from our staff, guests will be shown through to the winery and introduced to one of our winemakers. From here they will be given an introduction to the history of Provenance Wines, followed by an exclusive tour of the winery, including winemaking equipment and tasting of some maturing barrel samples. After the tour, our guests will sit down to a guided wine tasting of our regional series reserve pinot noirs and chardonnays, which are produced from specially selected vineyards inland and along the length of the Great Ocean Road.
These include the following:
2015 Ballarat Chardonnay
2015 Henty Chardonnay
2015 Geelong Chardonnay
2015 Ballarat Pinot Noir
2015 Henty Pinot Noir
2015 Geelong Pinot Noir
These wines are all highly rated by James Halliday and are not part of our regular cellar door tastings. Paired with these delicious wines will be a mix of local produce, bringing out the flavours of the fruit and showcasing a true taste sensation from the Great Ocean Road. Our guests will learn about the subtleties in the wine from each region, and how this comes about. This is a rare opportunity to have access inside our winery and significant one-on-one time with our winemakers. Ask them as many questions as you like about the winemaking process, specific grapes and soil types, bottling processes and tasting notes.
The fruits of your labour
Our guests will taste barrel samples of wines through different stages of their maturation learning what our winemakers look for in order to perfect each wine. With each of the wines we will offer a matched morsel of local produce including cheeses, meats, fish and antipasto. After the tasting our guests will be given the opportunity to take a bottle of their favourite reserve wine home with them.
